Jagadguru Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj, the fifth original Jagadguru, graced the world as the very Descension of Divine Love and Bliss (Bhaktiyoga-rasavatara). His life and profound teachings are a glorious re-establishment of the eternal and simplest path within Sanatana Dharma: the path of Bhakti Yoga, or selfless love for God.
The Essence of Sanatana Dharma: Divine Bliss
Sanatana Dharma, the eternal way, proclaims the soul's deepest, unceasing desire is for unlimited and everlasting happiness. This true bliss, Shri Maharaj Ji taught, is not found in the fleeting, material world. Our soul is an inseparable, eternal part of the blissful Supreme Lord, and as such, its ultimate purpose is to reunite with its Divine Source—Radha Krishna.
He clarified the essence of all Hindu scriptures, reconciling the seemingly contradictory philosophies of all previous Jagadgurus. The conclusion is simple, yet revolutionary: the ultimate goal is the attainment of the Divine Love (Prem) of God and His eternal service. This love is the highest form of bliss (Ananda).
Bhakti Yoga: The Path of Pure Devotion
Shri Kripalu Ji Maharaj emphatically declared that Bhakti (devotion) is the paramount and most direct means to God-realization, as it automatically brings about true knowledge (Gyan) and detachment (Vairagya). He emphasized that devotion must be performed with the mind, not merely through physical actions like visiting temples, performing rituals (karma), or mechanically chanting.
The core practice he prescribed is Rupadhyana (loving remembrance and meditation on the Divine Form), and surrender (sharanagati) of the mind to God.
“The mind alone is the cause of bondage and liberation.”
By attaching the mind to the supremely sweet form of Radha Krishna, one liberates it from the bondage of the material world. This practice is to be maintained even amidst one's worldly duties (known as karmayog in his philosophy), by constantly practicing the thought, "God is always with me, watching my every action and thought."
The Supreme Relationship: Radha Krishna Prem
The central teaching of Shri Maharaj Ji revolves around the eternal Divine Couple, Shri Radha Krishna, who are the highest form of God in Hinduism and the embodiment of the ultimate union of the soul with the divine.
He unveiled the secret of Ragatmika Bhakti, the most exalted form of devotion, where the love for God is spontaneous, unrestricted, and selfless, free from any desire or expectation. Devotees are encouraged to cultivate a personal, passionate relationship with Radha Krishna, viewing the Lord not as a distant ruler, but as one's own most beloved. This intense, selfless love is the Divine Love which, by the grace of God and the true spiritual master, ultimately leads the soul to its eternal home of divine bliss.
His profound literature, such as Prem Ras Siddhant and Prem Ras Madira, and the majestic temples he established, like Prem Mandir (Temple of Love), stand as everlasting testaments to his mission: to shower the world with the nectar of selfless, Divine Love for Radha Krishna, the very essence of Sanatana Dharma.
